This is the card I made for a recent swap at my friend Terry Kaspari's monthly meeting.
Materials:
* Hammermill 100# Premium Color Copy Cover Stock:
* 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" scored at 4-1/4" (card base)
* 6-1/2" x 3-1/4" scored at 3-1/4" (small overlapping card)
* Berry Burst card stock: 3-3/8" square and 3-1/8" square
* Beautiful Bokeh Designer Series Paper: 5-1/4" x 4"
* Happiness Abounds Stamp Set (flowers and leaves)
* Exposed Brick 3D Embossing Folder
Cutting and Assembly:
Card Base:
* On the front of the card, use your paper trimmer to cut a diagonal line from the top at the scoreline to the bottom right corner. NOTE: Don't discard that triangle -- I used mine for the inside (see instructions below).
* Emboss Beautiful Bokeh paper with Exposed Brick and then cut a diagonal line from the top left corner to the bottom right corner, creating two triangles. Adhere one piece to the front flap and the other to the upper right corner on the inside.
* Remember that triangle we cut off the front? Here's what I did with mine -- before I adhered the Beautiful Bokeh paper to the front flap, I lined it up with that triangle and trimmed 1/4" from the long diagonal side of the white card stock. Then I adhered it to the lower left corner of the inside. Since the patterned paper was embossed, it had a little thickness to it, so adding the thick card stock to the opposite corner kind of evened it out so when I adhered the smaller card to the inside it was more level and not "bumpy." (It also made me happy to use that triangle instead of tossing it into a scrap bin and never looking at it again . . . .)
Smaller Overlapping Card:
* Fold card at score line. Adhere to 3-3/8" Berry Burst square. Adhere inside of card with the fold to the right and the opening to the left overlapping the front flap.
* Adhere 3-1/8" square to front flap of small card.
* Decorate to your heart's content with whatever makes you happy!!!
Notes:
* Other than the Hammermill paper, everything I used for this card was from Stampin' Up!
* I had previously colored and copied a bunch of the flowers from the Happiness Abounds stamp set, so it was handy for this card to just print out several sheets of them and cut them out with my Brother Scan 'n Cut. I had planned on making a simple card, but once I got started putting flowers on the front flap I just couldn't stop myself from adding more and more and more!!! I even put some leaves and a small bouquet of flowers on the inside -- just because I could.
* I was kind of in a hurry to assemble these cards, so I decided to try out some sheets of adhesive dots I had purchased on Amazon. The results were disastrous, and it probably would have been just as quick to use my fine tip liquid glue -- I ended up with adhesive on the fronts of the flowers, all over my hands, and on my table! As far as I can tell, the glue is holding and nothing has fallen off any of the cards, but I doubt I'll be using those sheets again. Just too messy for me!
I hope you enjoy this card and try it yourself! And be sure to watch that video -- Susan Reynolds offers easy to understand instructions and lots of tips as she is making her cards. She also has a Facebook page which I've just started following with lots of great card making and paper crafting ideas! Visit https://www.facebook.com/makincraftsstudio to check it out.
