September Class Calendar Updated!

Hi, folks!  Happy Almost Autumn!!!!

I'm finally back from my August hiatus, and have updated my Upcoming Events page to include all of my September classes and stamp camps.  There are lots of card making events in lots of different locations, so I hope to see you this month in Berthoud, Thornton, Westminster, Wheat Ridge, or right here in my craft room!

Watch for more updates in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, I hope you're enjoying the last days of summer -- for myself, I'm hoping to see some snow on the mountains and some crisp autumn weather in Denver soon.  These 90+ temperatures have been way too hot for me.

Ok, full disclosure -- this is NOT the view from my house; it's
a photo I found online showing where I would LIKE to be.  :D

Fun Fold Circles Card (Stamp Camp North 2/10/2024)

Howdy, folks!  Couldn't resist showing you the card we made at my table this past Saturday at Stamp Camp North.  This layout was from Brian King, who created this design for a Valentine's Day card made with the Bee My Valentine stamp set and Bee Mine paper.  You can view Brian's original design at Sneak Peek: Bee My Valentine – STAMP WITH BRIAN.

Click on image for closer look.

Materials (all from Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted)
* Pebbled Path card stock: 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" for card base; scrap for 2-1/2" circle
* Calypso Coral card stock: 5-1/4" x 4" for first layer
* White card stock: 5" x 3-3/4" for inside; scrap for 2-1/4" circle
* Softly Stippled 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (free with minimum purchase during the current Sale-a-Bration promotion): 4" x 4" for large circles
* Bough punch (leaves)
* Petal Park Builder punch (flowers)
* 2-1/4" Circle punch (retired)
* 2-1/2" Circle punch (retired)
* 4" Circle die (old Sizzix die from my stash)  (NOTE: I had planned to use the new Deckled Circle Dies from Stampin' Up!, but forgot to order them . . . OOPS!)
* Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels

At stamp camp I had several different stamps available -- whatever I could find that would fit within the 2-1/4" circle; for this sample I used a stamp from the Biggest Wish set, stamped with Pebbled Path ink.

Basic Assembly

* Adhere 5" x 3-3/4" white card stock to 5-1/4" x 4" Calypso Coral card stock.  (HINT:  If you're stamping an inside sentiment, you probably want to do that first.)

* Score a line on both 4" circles 5/8" in from one edge.  Fold away from score lines.  Apply adhesive to the wrong side of the small folded-back section and adhere to the back of the 5-1/4" x 4" Calypso Coral card stock.  (NOTE:  I found it easiest to apply the adhesive to the back of the small section and position the larger part of the circle on the front of the card stock, lining up the score line snug against the edge of the card stock; then simply fold up the small section to adhere it to the back of the card stock.)  One circle goes near the top; the other on the opposite side near the bottom.

Line up the score lines at the edge of the card stock
and adhere to back of card stock as shown.

This is what it looks like from the front.

* Close flaps and adhere card stock to Pebbled Path 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" card stock.

Basic card with flaps closed.

At this point the basic assembly is complete and everything else is just embellishment.

* For my sample, I punched a couple of leaf boughs out of Pebbled Path and adhered them to the large top circle before adding the sentiment.

*  I then stamped the sentiment on a 2-1/4" white circle, and adhered that to the 2-1/2" Pebbled Path circle, which I then attached over the leaves with Stampin' Dimensionals.  (NOTE:  If you overlap the edge of the large circle like I did, be sure to avoid applying adhesive to the lower right edge of the circle -- you don't want to glue your card shut!)

* Next, I punched some flowers out of Calypso Coral card stock and planted them here and there -- on my sample I popped up only one of the flowers; the other two are flat against the card.

* Finally, I added the all-important bling -- one jewel to the center of each flower.

This is a simple card that's easy to assemble and sure to please.  Also a great stash buster if you have a lot of excess Designer Series Paper!  Hope you enjoy it!

Fun Fold/DSP Stash Buster Card

This is the card we made at my table at Sassy Stampers Stamp Camp in Berthoud this past Saturday.  It is so simple to make and very adaptable -- depending on what paper and embellishments you use, you can make it fun and whimsical or elegant; feminine or masculine.  I told the ladies who visited my table that this is a great obligatory card for people you don't like since the mini card that tucks into the pocket doesn't allow you much room to write a message.

Click on image for closer look.

This card was designed by Karen Titus.  Visit Karen's site, Stamping on the Back Porch, for all the measurements and assembly instructions, including a video tutorial.  Here's the link:  How to Make Quick Pocket Cards! — KarenTitus.com

These are the materials I used for my card (all from Stampin' Up!):

Pecan Pie card stock - 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" for base; 3-1/4" x 3-1/4" cut diagonally for pocket; 4-1/4" x 3-1/4" for mini card base; 2-1/2" x 1" for mat under sentiment

Nature's Sweetness 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper ("DSP") (January-April 2024 Mini Catalog) - three different coordinating designs - 5-1/4" x 4" for card base layer; 3" x 3" cut diagonally for pocket layer; 8" x 3" for mini card

Basic White card stock - 3-3/4" x 2-3/4" for inside of mini card; 2-1/4" x 3/4" for sentiment on front of mini card

Pebbled Path card stock: scrap for die cut

Notes of Nature Stamps and Dies (January-April 2024 Mini Catalog)

Pebbled Path Classic Stampin' Pad

I also used the "splatter" stamp from Quiet Meadow and gold embossing powder to add a little glitz to the pocket piece.

Note re squares for pocket pieces:  Karen cut the square pocket pieces 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" for the card stock and 3-1/4" x 3-1/4" for the DSP.  I cut mine slightly smaller:  3-1/4" x 3-1/4" for the card stock and 3" x 3" for the DSP (this size allows you to cut 16 pieces from a 12" x 12" sheet of paper; when cut diagonally, this is enough for 32 cards -- this becomes important when you're making massive numbers of card kits for a stamp camp).  All of the other measurements I used for my card are the same as Karen's.

Since I used almost all of the designs in the Designer Series Paper Pack, I also needed to come up with a second color scheme.  This is my alternate design:

Click on image for closer look.

For this one, I used Pebbled Path card stock in place of Pecan Pie.  Everything else is the same as the original color scheme.

I hope you enjoy this card.  I plan to make many of them -- I have a LOT of 12" x 12" patterned paper that needs to be used up.

January 2024 Class and Stamp Schedule Now Available

Happy New Year To Me!?

Well heck!  Winter vacay is over and it's back to work for me starting tomorrow (Friday, January 5).  My January schedule is now available on my Upcoming Events page (Cathy's Craft Room: Upcoming Events (cathyscraftroom.blogspot.com), along with flyers and/or contact information for each of the events.

After having almost three weeks off and having the opportunity to play with my almost-a-teenage grandson for a good portion of that time, it's rough for me to throw off my lazy days and get back to work.  Usually I'm up between 5 and 6 a.m., and I've actually been sleeping in until 7 a.m.!!!  (GASP!)

My word for 2024 (again) is FOCUS!!!  I have lots to do and ever-decreasing time to do it, but if I actually focus every day on what needs to be done, I know I can do it!

Most of all, I hope to have lots of fun with many of you in my craft room, in my classes, and in my stamp camps!

HAPPY 2024 TO YOU!!!

Bee My Valentine Fun Fold Card

This is one of my favorite fun folds -- it looks different every time depending on the shape you choose for the sentiment, as well as the designer paper, colors, and stamps you use to create it.  This card is made with the new Bee My Valentine stamp set and Bee Builder Punch which are featured in the January-April 2024 Mini Catalog (goes live on January 4, 2024).

Click on image for closer look.

Yes, I know the colors aren't what you would usually see on a bumblebee, but I decided to go with the more muted colors in the Designer Series Paper.  Bright yellow just didn't look right to me alongside these cute flowers.  So I ended up with this sweet, stylish little guy.

Featured Items from new mini catalog:
* Bee My Valentine Stamp Set
* Bee Builder Punch
* Bee Mine 12” x 12” Designer Series Paper: 5-1/8” x 1-3/4”

Other supplies:
* Sweet Sorbet card stock: 8-1/2” x 5-1/2”, scored at 2-1/8” and 4-1/4” (card base); 3-1/2” x 2-3/4” (mat for sentiment)
* Lemon Lime Twist card stock: 5-1/4” x 4” (inside mat); 5-1/4” x 1-7/8” (front flap mat); 3-3/8” x 2-5/8” (mat for sentiment)
* Basic White card stock: 5-1/8” x 3-7/8” (inside); 3-1/4” x 2-1/2” (sentiment)
* Classic Stampin’ Pads: Lemon Lime Twist, Petal Pink, Pool Party, and Sweet Sorbet; Tuxedo Black Memento Pad
* Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop up bee

These two view show the card closed and opened wide.

Hope you enjoy this fun card!
