Fun Holiday Gift Tags and Gift Card Holders

My Zoom class this past Thursday was great fun!  It's almost too late to send greeting cards, so we made a trio of gift tags and two card holders for holiday gift-giving.

It's been a crazy time around my house the past several days, and I've not had time to make up materials lists, so for the interim, below are photos of the fun projects we made.  Hopefully, I'll be able to get back within the next few days to add materials and instructions.

Merry Moose 5-1/4" x 5-1/4" Gift Card Holder

Inside showing pocket for gift card.

Snowman 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" Gift Card Holder

All of these projects are quick and easy.  We were able to finish all of them within 1-1/2 hours!  (Of course, they were made from kits, but preparing the kits also went very quickly.)

Winter Mini Slimline Card

How to Use Up Old DSP:
Make a Mini Slimline Greeting Card with Coordinating Envelope!

Do you have an overabundance of old Designer Series Paper hanging around taking up space?  Having a tough time finding envelopes the correct size to fit your mini slimline greeting cards?  How about making your own envelopes to match your card design and size perfectly?!

(Click on any photo for closer view.)

Mini slimline cards are 6” x 3-1/2”.  Size 6-3/4 business envelopes match the size, but the ones office supply stores usually carry are white, thin paper with blue safety print on the inside. SO UGLY for mailing your beautiful greeting cards!!!

If you have an envelope punch board (made by We R memory keepers and at one time featured in Stampin’ Up! catalogs), it’s a piece of cake to whip up a coordinating envelope.  For this size card, start with an 8” x 8” square piece of paper and line the edge of the paper up at 3-1/8” for your first punch and score.  Continue around, matching the score lines with the pointer on the punch board until you’ve got four score lines and four punches.  Then all you need to do is round the outer corners (optional), fold, and adhere the sides and bottom of the envelope.  Apply Tear ‘n Tape to the flap so you can remove the backing and seal the envelope when you’re ready to mail the card.

If you do NOT have an envelope punch board, you still would cut an 8” x 8” square piece of paper.  Line up your greeting card at 45-degree angle in the center of the paper, and add score lines on paper about 1/4" from outer edges of card.  (See diagram below.)  Use scissors to notch each side where the score lines intersect; discard triangle shape.  Use a corner rounder punch to make nice rounded edges for the flaps (optional).  Fold away from score lines and adhere side and bottom of envelope; apply Tear ‘n Tape to flap.

Materials for the Sample Card
* Pacific Point card stock: 7” x 6”, scored at 3-1/2” to create 6” x 3-1/2” mini slimline card
* Thick White card stock: 5-3/4” x 3-1/4”
* Snowflake Wishes Stamp Set
* Misty Moonlight Ink Pad
* So Many Snowflakes Dies
* Winter Snow Embossing Folder
* Snowflake Adhesive-Backed Embellishments
* Snowflake Splendor DSP for envelope (8” x 8”)
* Shipping Label stamped with snowflakes

Hope you enjoy this card and the accompanying envelope!

Other Stuff
* Rectangular Postage Stamp Punch
* Stitched Shapes Dies (1-3/8” square)

NOTE:  Patterned Paper is “Pioneer-Plaid” by Authentique; leaves were traced and then cut with Brother Scan ‘n Cut; sentiment is computer-generated.

Assembly
1.  Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from score line to create card base.
2.  Adhere 5-13/16” x 3-15/16” White card stock to card front.
3.  Adhere Cajun Craze card stock over White card stock.
4.  Use embossing folder to add texture to right side of  Bumblebee (or Crushed Curry) card stock; adhere over Cajun Craze card stock (see photo for positioning).
5.  Adhere Patterned Paper about 1/8” from left side of embossed card stock.
6.  Use dies to cut three 1-3/8" squares from White card stock; adhere over Patterned Paper with Foam Dots or Foam Tape.  TIP: Position top and bottom squares first – this makes it easier to center the middle square between them.
7.  Use Liquid Glue or Glue Dots to adhere leaves to squares as shown.  NOTE:  The leaves used on these cards were traced and cut with Brother Scan 'n Cut, but any leaves of about this size would work for this card.
8.  Punch postage stamp from Cajun Craze card stock.  Stamp or generate computer sentiment on White card stock; cut to 1-13/16" x 1-1/4"; adhere to postage stamp shape.  Adhere to card front as shown with Foam Dots or Foam Tape.  Make small bow with Linen Thread; adhere as shown with a glue dot behind the knot.

8.        Inside: Adhere Early Espresso card stock to inside of card.  Adhere 5” x 3-3/4” White card stock over Early Espresso.  Adhere Patterned Paper across bottom of White card stock.  Use Liquid Glue to adhere leaves as shown.

Hope you enjoy this card!

* Copper Metallic Thread **
* Adhesives: Double-sided tape or tape runner; Liquid Glue; Glue Dots; Foam Tape or Stampin’ Dimensionals

** Copper Delicata Metallic Ink and Copper Metallic Thread are retired Stampin’ Up! products.
*** When cutting DSP, try to cut one 3-3/4” x 2-1/2” piece the same design as top portion of 5-1/4” x 4” DSP.  This way when you close the card, it appears to be the same picture.  The second piece of 3-3/4” x 2-1/2” DSP should be cut sideways from the first piece, since it will be perpendicular to the first piece.

Assembly
1.       Score 11” x 4-1/4” Soft Suede card stock at 2-3/4” and 5-1/2”.  Fold to the back on 2-3/4” score line; fold to the front on 5-1/2” score line, creating a “Z” shape card.

2.       On inside (5-1/2” x 4”) panel, adhere Night of Navy card stock; adhere DSP over card stock.
3.       Cut white card stock with 2-3/8” x 1-1/16” Stitched Rectangle.  Stamp sentiment with Night of Navy ink; stamp dots with Copper Ink.  Adhere to 2-1/5” x 1-3/16” Night of Navy card stock.  Fold top panels half-way down and use as a guide to adhere sentiment to DSP with Foam Tape or Stampin’ Dimensionals.
4.       Adhere 4” x 2-1/2” Night of Navy card stock to top panel; adhere 3-3/4” x 2-1/4” DSP over card stock.  This piece should match top part of inside DSP.  See *** above.
5.       Adhere 4” x 2-1/2” Night of Navy card stock to center panel.

6.       Adhere second piece of DSP to last piece of 4” x 2-1/2” piece of Night of Navy card stock.  This piece should be cut perpendicular to the first piece in Step 4.  See *** above.  Apply Foam Tape or Stampin’ Dimensionals to back (top half only) of this piece.  Fold top portion half-way down and carefully line up to cover sentiment.  Remove backing from foam and adhere to top panel.
7.       Use Liquid Glue to adhere bouquet pieces to the piece created in Step 6.  For the sample, I applied a thin line of liquid glue to just the stem of the vellum pieces and adhere them first.  Second, I applied a few tiny drops of liquid glue to the twigs and adhered them over the vellum pieces.  Third, I applied dots of Liquid Glue to the berries on the copper element and adhered it on top of the other pieces.
8.       Hold the Linen Thread and Copper Metallic Thread together and make a loopy bow.  Adhere over the bouquet with a Glue Dot behind the knot.

Confusing?  Hopefully, the photos will make a little clearer.  This would make a great Thanksgiving card!  It can be stood up as shown in the photo as a reminder of how much you care!

Hope you have enjoyed these cards!  I always have way more fun than I should creating and assembling these cards!

Autumn Greetings Slimline Card

This is my card from Rose Hill Stamp Camp September Card Kits To Go.  We decided to try a pack of slimline cards since they're enjoying a resurge of popularity these days.

Click on photo for closer look.

Slimline cards are basically just long cards (8-1/2" x 3-1/2") that fit into #9 business size envelopes (some people make them a little larger to fit #10 size envelopes).  I can see advantages and disadvantages to making these types of cards.  On the pro side, you can fit checks, dollar bills or long gift certificates inside without having to fold them; on the con side, they use a lot more card stock to make than the standard A2 (5-1/2" x 4-1/4") size cards.

Materials

Paper:

* Cajun Craze card stock (8-1/2” x 7”, scored at 3-1/2”)
* Early Espresso card stock (8-1/4” x 3-1/4”; 6-1/4” x 2-1/4”, 5-1/2” x 1-1/4”)
* Bumblebee card stock (8-1/4” x 3” – compressed to 8” x 3” with crimper)
* Plaid Tidings 6” x 6” Designer Series Paper (“DSP”) (6” x 2”)**
* White card stock (5-1/2” x 1” for sentiment; 8-1/4” x 3-1/4” for inside)
* Scraps of card stock for leaves: Bumblebee, Cajun Craze, Mossy Meadow; Old Olive for acorn

Other:
* Paper Crimper*
* Lovely Labels Pick-a-Punch (edges of sentiment)**
* Stitched Leaves Dies**
* Autumn Punch Pack (larger leaves/acorns for inside)
* Season Punch Pack (small leaves)*
* Homemade Shimmer Mist for leaves***

* Retired Stampin’ Up! products.  You should be able to find paper crimpers in your local craft store.

** August-December 2020 SU Mini Catalog

*** Homemade Shimmer Mist is made by combining water (or alcohol for quicker drying) and Artist's Loft Iridescent Medium.  You also can add other shimmery liquids (i.e., All-Purpose Ink by Tsukineko Co., Ltd.) to give your shimmer mist gold or silvery tones.  To add a hint of color, add a few drops of refill ink.

Assembly (NOTE:  Nothing on my sample card was popped up, but you’re certainly welcome to add your own foam dots or foam tape if you want to pop up sentiment and/or leaves.)

1.       Adhere 8-1/4” x 3-1/4” Early Espresso card stock to card front.

2.       Adhere crimped Bumblebee card stock over Early Espresso.  (NOTE:  If you are using a tape runner, use a light touch to avoid flattening out the crimping.)

3.       Adhere DSP to 6-1/4” x 2-1/4” Early Espresso card stock.  Adhere card stock to card front as shown.

4.       Adhere sentiment to 5-1/2” x 1-1/4” Early Espresso card stock.  Adhere card stock to card front as shown.

5.       Adhere three larger glittery leaves to card front as shown (suggest using liquid glue or glue dots).

6.       8-1/4” x 3-1/4” white card stock is for inside of card.  Optional: Add a random scattering of small punched leaves to inside of card.

I hope you enjoy this fun fall design!

* 1-1/2” Metallic Mesh Ribbon (Aug-Dec 2020 Catalog)

* 1/4" Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon

* Sentiment shown in sample is from “You Make My Day” by My Favorite Things

Assembly

1. Use embossing folder to add texture to 5-1/4" x 4" white card stock; adhere to card front.

2. Adhere 5-1/4” x 1-9/16” DSP to 5-1/4” x 1-3/4” base color card stock; adhere card stock to front of card.

3. Cut Ornate Frame from accent card stock.  Use Basic Gray ink to stamp sentiment of your choice on scrap of white card stock; cut out sentiment with coordinating label die from same die set.  Adhere sentiment to ornate frame, and adhere frame to card over DSP as shown.

4. Cut bouquet elements from card stock (see list above) and adhere to front of card as shown with glue dots or tiny dots of liquid glue.

5. Tie a short piece of Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon around a piece (about 1-1/2" long) of Metallic Mesh Ribbon; adhere over bouquet with glue dot.

Inside:

Stamp sentiment (optional) and adhere second piece of 5-1/4” x 4” white card stock to inside of card.

Since I didn't have enough DSP of the above design for all of the card kits needed, I also used these alternate colors for some of the kits.

* Garden Green (base) card stock

* Pear Pizzazz (accent) card stock

I hope you enjoy this card!  Don't hold your breath, but I think I'm going to try to be brave and make a video for this card within the next day or two.  If I actually do it, I'll add a link to this post!  EEK!!!!!
