2017 Mini Calendar Design (September Stamp Camp Card)

Hi, folks!  It's time to start thinking about 2017 calendars, so this is the card we made at my table at Stamp Camp North on Saturday, September 10.  We'll be doing a similar card (actually, the same basic design -- just different paper and embellishments) at the September 24 Rose Hill Stamp Camp in Commerce City.  (See my Upcoming Stampin' Events page for additional info.)

Front of card

Card opened and set up.
Materials:

Stamp Set: Bunch of Blossoms

Paper:
  •   Soft Suede card stock (8-1/2” x 5-1/2”)
  •   Pool Party card stock (3-5/8” x 2-7/8”)
  •   Crumb Cake card stock (3-3/8” x 2-11/16”)
  •   Serene Scenery DSP Stack (3 x 2-5/16”)
Inside:
  •   Whisper White card stock (5-1/4” x 4”)
  •   Pool Party card stock (5-1/4” x 1-1/2”)
  •   Crumb Cake card stock (5-1/4” x 1-1/4”)
  •   Serene Scenery DSP Stack (5-1/4” x 7/8”)
  •   (Scraps of Crumb Cake, Pool Party and Early Espresso for swirls and flowers; 4-1/4" x 1" strip of Whisper White for banner)
Ink:
  •   Early Espresso Stampin’ Pad (stamping)
  •   Soft Suede Stampin’ Pad (sponging)
Accessories and Tools:
  •   Big Shot Die Cutting Machine
  •   Swirly Scribbles Thinlits Dies
  •   Woodgrain Embossing Folder
  •   Triple Banner Punch
  •   Pearl Basic Jewels
  •   Stampin’ Sponge
Adhesive:  SNAIL; Tombow Liquid Glue

Other: Mini Calendar (2-3/8” x 1-11/16”)

Instructions:

1.  Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from score line to create card.

2.  Use embossing folder to add texture just to front of card (the card will fold over the narrower side of the embossing folder to fit through the Big Shot).

3.  Score front of card at 2-1/8" (this is halfway between previous score/fold line and edge of paper.  Fold back at this second score line to create base for easel card.

4.  Use Big Shot and die to cut two swirly shapes from scraps of Early Espresso card stock and two from Crumb Cake card stock.  Cut flowers from Pool Party and Crumb Cake card stock (I cut 3 Pool Party and 2 Crumb Cake -- you may want to add more or less).

5. Use Early Espresso ink to stamp sentiment on 4-1/4" x 1" piece of Whisper White card stock; use triple Banner Punch to trim right edge and create banner.

6. Use Stampin' Sponge and Soft Suede ink to add shading around edges of every piece EXCEPT the card base and the Early Espresso swirls (the ink won't show up on those anyway).

7. Adhere Early Espresso swirly shape to upper left corner on front of card; adhere Crumb Cake shape over it.

8.  Layer and adhere Pool Party and Crumb Cake card stock and DSP as shown in photo for calendar base on front of card.  Before adding calendar, add glue to back of ONLY THE BOTTOM HALF of the Pool Party card stock and glue to BOTTOM HALF of front of card.  This will allow the calendar base to stand up when the front is folded in half.  Once that piece is in place, add the calendar (this is a cautionary measure only -- I've been known to occasionally glue my pieces on upside-down, and once the calendar been glued down, it's kind of difficult to remove and place it back on right-side up without tearing it up).

8. Add flowers and self-adhesive pearls to front wherever they make you happy.

9. INSIDE: Adhere 5-1/4" x 4" Whisper White card stock to inside of card; then at bottom edge layer the Pool Party, Crumb Cake and DSP.  Add banner with sentiment at an angle, and then glue the Early Espresso and Crumb Cake swirly shapes over the left edge of the banner.  Add another flower and a pearl, and you're finished!

Hope you enjoy this card throughout the coming year!!!

Wetlands Card (August Stamp Camp North Card)

Click on photo for closer look.

This is the card we made at my table at Stamp Camp North on August 13.  What a wonderful peaceful card.  Many thanks to Amanda Bates (http://thecraftspa.blogspot.com/2016/07/wetlands-serene-scenery.html) for this great design!

Ingredients:

Stamp Set: Wetlands

Paper:
  Crumb Cake card stock (8-1/2” x 5-1/2”)
  Whisper White card stock (4-1/2” x 3-1/4” – outside; 5-1/4” x 4” – inside)
  Serene Scenery DSP Stack (4-1/4” x 3”)

Ink:
  Early Espresso Classic Stampin’ Pad
  VersaMark Pad

Accessories & Tools:
  Big Shot & Seaside Embossing Folder
  Heat Tool & White Embossing Powder

Adhesive:  SNAIL

Miscellaneous:  REMOVABLE double-sided tape

Instructions:

1. Score Crumb Cake card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from score line to create card.

2. Use VersaMark pad to stamp sentiment as shown on DSP.  Cover with White Embossing Powder, tap off excess, and heat with Heat Tool until shiny and bright.

3. Attach DSP to center of card front with REMOVABLE double-sided tape (NOTE: DO NOT insert White card stock at this time -- see Step 5).  Use Early Espresso ink to stamp sandpipers and weeds as shown.

4. Remove DSP from card; remove double-sided tape.  Use Big Shot and Seaside embossing folder to add texture to sand and sea portion of DSP.

5. Adhere DSP to 4-1/2" x 3-1/4" Whisper White card stock; adhere card stock to front of card, lining up images.

That's it!  Sweet, simple, and serene!!!!

P.S.  Don't forget to add a few sandpipers and weeds to inside of card and to envelope.

I'm Almost Back . . . .

Hi, folks!  I've been away for what seems like an eternity!  My husband had an unfortunate mishap the beginning of June and spent several weeks in the hospital and skilled nursing.  He's now back home and, although still in a wheelchair, is expected to be up and walking again within a few weeks.

Please check back soon -- I expect to be able to start catching up very soon . . . .

This sweet card has such a happy, spring feeling to it!  This uses a couple of items from the Sale-a-Bration brochure (receive one item free for each $50 order placed between now and the end of March).

This idea came from Barb Stencel.  You can see Barb's original design at http://beelinestamping.com/new-year-new-catalog-and-a-blog-hop/.

Materials:

Stamp Set:
* Honeycomb Happiness (2016 Sale-a-Bration brochure)

Paper:
* Blackberry Bliss card stock (8-1/2" x 5-1/2)
* Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper (5-1/4" x 4") (2016 Sale-a-Bration Brochure)
* Whisper White card stock (5" x 2"; about 2" x 2" for chickie image)
* Hello Honey card stock (3" x 2")

Ink:
* Black StazOn Ink
* Hello Honey Refill Ink
* Pumpkin Pin Stampin' Write Marker

Accessories and Tools:
* Ornate Tag Topper Punch
* Banner Triple Punch
* Aqua Painter filled with water
* Honeycomb Embellishment (2016 Occasions Mini Catalog)
* Mint Macaron 1" Dotted Lace Trim
* Adhesives: SNAIL; Stampin' Dimensionals; Tear and Tape

Instructions:

1. Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from score line to create card.

2. Adhere 5-1/4" x 4" DSP to card front.

3. Punch top end of Whisper White card stock with tag topper punch; punch bottom with banner punch.   Stamp sentiment as shown; stamp chickie image above sentiment; color feet with Pumpkin Pie Marker.  Stamp balloon image as shown; color bow with another color marker of your choosing.

4. Punch one end of Hello Honey card stick with banner punch and adhere to back of Whisper White tag.  Set aside.

5.  On separate piece of Whisper White card stock, stamp a second image of the chickie.  Use Aqua Painter and Hello Honey ink to color in chickie; use Pumpkin Pie marker to color beak.  Cut around the body of the chickie (cut off feet), and adhere over stamped image on tag with Stampin' Dimensionals.

6. On back of tag, adhere one long piece of Tear and Tape along right edge.  Adhere flat side of ribbon to tape, scrunching up and ruffling as you go.  Trim off excess ribbon.

7. Adhere tag to front of card as shown using Stampin' Dimensionals.

8. Adhere Honeycomb Embellishment over balloon image.

Oh, Hello!!!  Your card is finished!

Going Global Card (February Class Project)

This is one of the cards we made at my February classes.  We also made it at the January 30 stamp camp.  Very easy and a very fun and cool-looking technique!

This idea came directly from Sharon Cheng, who posted her card on Splitcoaststampers.com.  For more information, please see Sharon's blog at http://www.sharoncheng.com/2015/12/going-global-occasions-catalog-sneak.html.

Materials:

Stamp Set:
* Going Global (Occasions Mini Catalog)

Paper:
* Sahara Sand card stock (8-1/2" x 5-1/2")
* Basic Black card stock (5" x 3-3/4"; about 2" square for circle)
* Very Vanilla card stock (about 2" square for circle; 3/4" x 2" for sentiment)
* Typeset Specialty Designer Series Paper (5-1/4" x 4" - diagonal pattern; 4-7/8" x 3-5/8" - grid pattern; 3" x 3/4" - words)

Ink:
* Lost Lagoon Classic Stampin' Pad
* Memento Ink
* Lost Lagoon and Sahara Sand Stampin' Write Markers

Accessories and Tools:
* Big Shot Die Cutting Machine
* World Traveler Embossing Folder (Occasions Mini Catalog)
* Circles Collection Thinlits Dies
* 2" Circle Punch
* Brayer
* Bone Folder
* Iced Rhinestones (Occasions Mini Catalog)
* Adhesives: SNAIL Adhesive, Stampin' Dimensionals

Instructions:

1. Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/4" paper at 4-1/4"; fold away from score line to create card.

2. Adhere diagonal striped Specialty DPS to front of card; adhere Basic Black card stock over DSP.

3. Use Brayer and Lost Lagoon Ink to apply ink to the inside of the embossing folder.  IMPORTANT NOTE: Ink should be applied to the side of the embossing folder with the words printed on the outside; i.e., the side where the land is sunken.  It also helps to cut a little mask to cover the land portion of the embossing folder at the top so you don't get excess ink in those areas -- I used a large sticky note to create the mask.  Remove the mask before the next step.

4. Place grid patterned Specialty DSP on the opposite side of the embossing folder, with the grid side of the paper facing up.  Close the embossing folder and crank it through the Big Shot.  When you open the embossing folder, you will see that the ink has transferred to the paper, so it's colored and embossed in one step.  (Cool, huh?!)

5. Adhere the grid patterned Specialty DSP over the Basic Black card stock.

6. Cut a chevron shape out of one end of the word patterned Specialty DSP.  Stamp sentiment in the center of the Very Vanilla 3/4" x 2" strip; rip sides off of Very Vanilla and adhere to Specialty DSP as shown.  NOTE: I used a bone folder to curl this piece slightly before adhering to front of card.

7. Punch 2" circle from Basic Black card stock.  Stamp compass image on Very Vanilla card stock; use same size Circle Die to cut out image.  Color image with Stampin' Write Markers, and adhere to Basic Black circle.  Adhere to front of card with Stampin' Dimensionals.  Add Ice Rhinestone to center of compass.

That's it!  An easy card with lots of dimension and personality!

Calendar Easel Card with Envelope (January class project)

Click on photo for closer look

Maybe a little late to be making calendars?  Nah!  Still plenty of months left in the year to be giving calendars . . . or making one for yourself!

I snagged the idea for this calendar from Pinterest -- pinned from Carol Payne's blog.  Please visit  http://www.carolpaynestamps.com/2015/11/stampin-up-grand-vacation-achievers-blog-hop-seeing-3-d.html to see her post.  To download Carol's instructions to construct the calendar card, please visit http://carolpaynestamps.typepad.com/files/sweet-sorbet-easel-calendar.pdf.  I made mine slightly different than Carol's, so where there are differences, I will note that in the instructions below.

Materials

Card

Stamp Set
* Ray of Sunshine

Paper
* Basic Black card stock (11" x 4-1/4"; 5-1/2" x 4-1/4"; 3-1/4" x 2-1/2"; 3-3/4" x 2-3/8")
* Lost Lagoon card stock (5-1/4" x 4"; 3-1/2" x 2-3/4"; 3-1/2" x 3/4"; 3-3/4" x 2-1/4")
* Very Vanilla card stock (3" x 2"; 5-1/4" x 4")
* Going Places Designer Series Paper Stack (5" x 3-3/4"; 3-1/2" x 1")**

Ink
* Lost Lagoon Classic Stampin' Pad
* VersaMark OR Basic Black Archival Stampin' Pad

Accessories and Tools
* Simply Scored Scoring Tool
* Big Shot Die Cutting Machine
* Lots of Labels Framelits Die
* Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits Die
* Heat Tool
* Black or Clear Embossing Powder
* Stampin' Sponge
* Adhesives: SNAIL Adhesive, Stampin' Dimensionals, Tear Tape Adhesive, and Mini Glue Dots

Miscellaneous Items
* 2" x 1-1/2" Post-it Note Pad
* Small Clip Pen (I found mine at Staples)
* 2-15/16" x 2-1/4" Mini Calendar Pad

Envelope

Paper
* Lost Lagoon card stock (9" x 9"; 1-1/2" wide scrap for large flower)
* Basic Black card stock (1-1/4" wide scrap for medium flower)
* Whisper Whire card stock (1" wide scrap for small flower)
* Everyday Chic Designer Series Paper (12" x 1")

Accessories and Tools
* Envelope Punch Board
* Blossom Bunch Punch**
* Iced Rhinestone Embellishments**

** 2016 Occasions Mini Catalog

Instructions

First, view Carol's directions for assembly of the card base.  The only difference between Carol's and mine is that I added one more score line so my calendar would close more like a booklet.  So for mine you will score the 11" x 4-1/4" paper at 5-1/5", 5-7/8" and 8-5/8".  Then, when you place the 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" card front onto the base, you will line the top edge of the card front up with the 5-7/8" score line.  Other than that, the construction is identical to Carol's.

Card Front

1. Adhere 5-1/4" x 4" Lost Lagoon card stock to 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" Basic Black card stock (this is the card front).  Adhere 5" x 3-3/4" Designer Series Paper over Lost Lagoon.

2. Adhere 3-1/4" x 2-1/2" Basic Black card stock to 3-1/2" x 2-3/4" Lost Lagoon card stock; adhere calendar over Basic Black card stock.  Adhere all three layers to card front 1/8" from top edge of Designer Series Paper.

3. Stamp sentiment on scrap of Very Vanilla card stock, and cover with embossing powder.  (If you stamp with VersaMark ink, use black embossing powder; if you stamp with Black ink, use clear embossing powder.)  Use your heat tool to melt the powder and make the words pop out.  Cut out sentiment using the 2-7/8" x 1-3/4" die from the Lots of Labels set; use the Stampin' Sponge to apply Lost Lagoon ink around edges.  Use die from Project Life set to cut 3-1/2" x 3/4" banner from Lost Lagoon card stock.  Adhere sentiment to banner, and then adhere to card front below calendar with Stampin' Dimensionals.

4.  Adhere card front to card base as explained above and in Carol's video.

Inside

Click on photo for closer look.
5.  Adhere Very Vanilla 5-1/4" x 4" card stock to inside of card.  Adhere Basic Black 3-3/4" x 2-3/8" card stock about 1/8" away from bottom and side edges.  Adhere 3-1/2" x 1" Designer Series Paper about 1/2" from bottom of Basic Black card stock.6. To make pen holder, score Lost Lagoon 3-3/4" x 2-1/4" card stock at 3/8", 3/4", 1-1/8", and 1-1/2" from one short end.  Fold away from all score lines, making a little square to hold pen.  Apply Tear and Tape adhesive on outside of 3/8" section closest to the edge.  Adhere that section right up against the first score line, creating a square opening for the pen.

Score lines and Tear and Tape positioning.

Finished pen holder before attaching to card.

Depending on what type of pen you get, it should fit -- you could also make the holder narrower or wider by making the score lines closer together or further apart.  A clip pen will work best because that will hold the pen in place if the opening is slightly large.  NOTE:  If you increase or decrease the width of the score line, be sure to also increase or decrease the overall length of the card stock to correspond.

Attach the pen holder over the Basic Black card stock and Designer Series Paper as shown above.

6. Attach Tear and Tape to backing sheet of 2" x 1-1/2" Post-it Note pad and attach pad to base of pen holder.  Insert pen, and you're ready to go.

Envelope

Carol's instructions on the link above have detailed instructions on how to make the envelope.  You will need to use an envelope punch board.

The flower on the belly band was made by punching the three flowers from the Blossom Bunch Punch -- one each of Basic Black, Lost Lagoon, and Whisper White card stock.  Adhere the flowers together with a dot of Tombow Liquid Adhesive in the center of each, and top with an Iced Rhinestone Embellishment.  Attach to the belly band with a couple of glue dots, covering the seam.

That's it!  A wonderful and pretty inexpensive gift for a good friend!

Sympathy Card (Front Range Stampers Swap Card 1/18/2016)

Click on image for closer look.
This is a card I made for the card swap at my Front Range Stampers meeting this evening.  The theme was sympathy cards, but I thought with this sentiment it could also be used as an everyday greeting card.  I snagged the idea from something I saw online . . . and of course, now I can't find it again.  But once I do, I'll update this post to add a link to that site.

Materials

Stamp Sets:
* World of Dreams
* Watercolor Wishes

Paper:
* Night of Navy card stock (5-1/8" x 3-7/8")
* Whisper White card stock (5" x 3-1/2")
* Whisper White Thick card stock (8-1/2" x 5-1/2")

Ink:
* Basic Black Archival Stampin' Pad
* Crushed Curry Classic Stampin' Pad
* Island Indigo Classic Stampin' Pad
* Night of Navy Classic Stampin' Pad

Accessories and Tools:
* 1-1/2" Circle Punch
* Stampin' Sponges
* Wink of Stella Gold
* Gold Metallic Thread
* SNAIL Adhesive
* Crystal Effects

Miscellaneous Items:
* 3" x 3" Post-it Note

Instructions

1. Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" Whisper White Thick card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from score line to create card.

2. Adhere Night of Navy card stock to front of card.

3. Use Circle Punch to make a template in 3" x 3" Post-it Note (about 1-1/4" from top edge; about 5/8" from right edge).  Position template over 5" x 3-1/2" Whisper White card stock, so that it just covers the top and right edges.  Use Stampin' Sponges to apply color inside circle, starting with Crushed Curry in lower left portion of circle; then adding Island Indigo to the right; and ending with Night of Navy across the top and left side.  Remove Post-it Note.

4. Use Basic Black Archival Ink to stamp images on front of card.  Adhere to front of card over Night of Navy card stock.

5. Use Gold Wink of Stella brush to paint over the flower, stems and leaves (I covered only the flower to the left, leaving the other one flat black).

6.  Fold a length of Gold Metallic Thread in half, and then make a small, three-loop bow with both thicknesses.  Trim tails, and adhere to stem of flower to the left with one small dot of Crystal Effects.

A peaceful, elegant, and simple card to let someone special know you're thinking of him or her.

Enjoy!
