Vellum Pansy Card

Grabbing a few more minutes this morning to post instructions for another card we made in one of my recent card classes.  This design was inspired by a card posted on splitcoaststampers.com by Carol Lovenstein.  You can see Carol's original design at http://www.pinkstampagne.com/friday-inspiration-flower-shop-3-of-3/.  While you're there, check out some of her other cool cards!!!

Materials:

Stamp Sets:
* Flower Shop
* Happy Watercolor (this stamp set is in the Stampin' Up! Spring catalog and is available only through June 4, 2014; there are lots of other sets available in the new catalog -- available beginning June 2 -- which include "thank you" as well as several other sentiments)

Paper:
* Crumb Cake card stock (8-1/2" x 5-1/2"; scrap for stems
* Pool Party card stock (4-3/4" by 3-1/2"; scrap for punch**
* Whisper White card stock (4-1/2" x 3-1/4"; scrap for punch
* Vellum card stock (scraps for flowers)
            ** Note that the Pool Party 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon used on this card is being discontinued as of June 4, 2014; a good substitute for this card is Soft Sky -- the matching 1/2" Seam Binding ribbon is NOT being discontinued.

Ink:
* Whisper White Craft Stampin' Pad
* Crumb Cake Classic Stampin' Pad

Accessories and Tools:
* White Embossing Powder
* Heat Tool
* Pansy Punch
* Big Shot Die Cutting Machine
* Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder
* Little Leaves Sizzlits Die (this Sizzlit Die is being discontinued as of June 4, 2014; a good substitute would be the stem on the new Flower Frenzy Bigz L Die available beginning June 2, 2014)
* Decorative Label Punch
* Large Oval Punch
* Pool Party 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon (this color of Seam Binding Ribbon is being discontinued as of June 4, 2014; an adequate substitute would be Soft Sky 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon, or you could use Pool Party refill ink to die the new Whisper White 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon, which will be available beginning June 2, 2014)
* Large Pearls (these self-adhesive 8 mm pearls are being discontinued as of June 4, 2014; a good substitute would be the slightly smaller, 5 mm pearls packaged with the 3 mm and 2 mm pearls)
* Adhesives: 2-Way Glue Pen; Glue Dots; SNAIL Adhesive; Stampin' Dimensionals

Instructions:
(Note:  Unless otherwise indicated, SNAIL Adhesive is used to assemble this card)

1. Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from score line to create card.

2. Adhere Pool Party card stock to front of card.

3. Emboss Whisper White card stock with Big Shot and Perfect Polks Dots Embossing Folder; adhere to front of card over Pool Party card stock.

4. Use Sizzlits die to cut leaves from Crumb Cake card stock; adhere to front of card with 2-Way Glue Pen.

5. Use Craft Ink to stamp flower image on Vellum card stock; emboss with White Embossing Powder.  Adhere to front of card over leaves with Stampin' Dimensionals.  Attach a Pearl to the center of each flower.

6. Make a bow from Seam Binding ribbon and use a Glue Dot to adhere over stem.

7. Punch Decorative Label from scrap of Pool Party card stock.  Stamp sentiment on scrap of Whisper White card stock; punch out with Large Oval Punch, and adhere to Decorative Label.  Attach to front of card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

That's it . . . the step-by-step on this beautiful card.  (Note:  The original card done in almost all in white with just a touch of color is very striking!  On that version, the artist stamped stems from Field Flowers on the Whisper White card stock before running the card stock through the Big Shot with the embossing folder.  Note that Field Flowers is being retired as of June 4, 2014; if you don't have that set, a good substitute for the stamped version of the stems might be Summer Silhouettes (available now), or World of Dreams or Kinda Eclectic (both available in the new catalog beginning June 2, 2014.)

I hope you enjoy this card!

Embossing Folder Background Stamped Card

What, you say?!  Two . . . count them . . . 1 . . . 2 . . . cards in one week?!  Inconceivable!!!!!

This is such a cool technique I had to share it.  It was featured on splitcoaststampers.com a few weeks ago.  (Visit http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/embossingfolderstamping/ for a tutorial on how to do Embossing Folder Stamping.)

This is the card I made using this technique.  Hope you enjoy making it as much as I did!

Materials:

Stamp Set:
* Wetlands

Paper:
* Soft Sky card stock (8-1/2" x 5-1/2")
* Sahara Sand card stock (5-1/4" x 4")
* Watercolor Paper (5" x 3-3/4")

Ink:
* Sahara Sand Classic Stampin' Pad
* Soft Sky Classic Stampin' Pad
* Memento Pad

Accessories and Tools:
* Fancy Fan Embossing Folder
* Sponge Daubers
* Grid Paper
* Stampin' Spritzer filled with water
* Heat Tool (optional)
* Linen Thread
* SNAIL Adhesive

Instructions:

1. Score Soft Sky card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from score line to create card.

2. Use Sponge Dauber to apply Soft Sky ink around edges of card front and Watercolor Paper; apply Sahara Sand ink around edges of Sahara Sand card stock.  Adhere Sahara Sand card stock to front of card.

3. On Grid Paper, use a marker to draw a rectangle about 3-1/4" x 2-1/4".  Draw another rectangle 5" x 3-3/4" evenly spaced around the first rectangle.

4. Following instructions from the link above, open Embossing Folder and center printed side down over rectangles on Grid Paper.  Use Sponge Daubers to sponge Soft Sky ink across the top half of the small rectangle; sponge Sahara Sand ink across the bottom half of the small rectangle.  Spritz with water.  Carefully line up Watercolor Paper with large rectangle outline and place on folder.  Lightly dab (DO NOT RUB) the back of the paper with your fingertips to help it soak up the ink and water.  Carefully lift paper straight up so you don't smear the water.  Set aside with wet side up and allow to air dry, or use a heat tool to dry the water.

5.  When paper is completely dry, use Memento Ink to stamp sand piper and grassy/weedy images.

6.  Wrap linen thread around Watercolor Paper (I wrapped it three times) and tie in a knot in the front.  Adhere to front of card over Sahara Sand card stock.

That's it!  What a wonderful fun technique to create a unique watercolor-looking background!

Enjoy!

Scallop Tag Topper Card

Click on image for closer look.

We made this card in my April classes -- what fun we had using the new Scallop Tag Topper Punch!!!

Rather than trying to tell you how to make this card, I've added links below to several different You Tube tutorials showing how to make this card.  (Who'da thunk there would be so many different ways to make this simple card?!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6YQZuOs5fU - Deb Valder shows you how to make this card, and shows you a few other cute ideas for using the Scallop Tag Topper Punch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31aB_jxTy54 - Dee Slater has another way to mark where to make your initial punches for this card.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN4ZZe7MBZo - Diane Dimich has a totally different way of punching the ends -- a time saver because she punches both ends at the same time -- eliminating the need for any measuring.

So . . . pick the technique you like, and go with it!

Following are the materials list for the items I used to make my version of the card and the instructions for finishing off the card once the card base is made:

Stamp Set:
* Happy Watercolor (Celebrate the Everyday Catalog -- Occasions 2014 -- available through June 1)

Paper:
* Soft Suede card stock (8-1/2" x 5-1/2"; 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" for circle punch)
* Very Vanilla card stock (5-1/4" x 4" for inside; 2-1/2" x 1-1/2" for label punch)
* Tangerine Tango card stock (2-1/2" x 2-1/2" for scallop circle punch)
* Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper ("DSP") (5-1/4" x 2-1/4")

Ink:
* Soft Suede Classic Stampin' Pad
* Tangerine Tango Classic Stampin' Pad

Accessories and Tools:
* 2-1/2" Circle Punch
* 2-3/8" Scallop Circle Punch
* Decorative Label Punch
* Stampin' Sponge
* Soft Suede Taffeta Ribbon
* Adhesives:  SNAIL Adhesive, Stampin' Dimensionals

Instructions:
(Unless otherwise indicated, SNAIL Adhesive is used throughout.)

1.  Make card base from Soft Suede card stock following video instructions.

2.  Punch 2-1/2" Circle from Soft Suede card stock; punch 2-3/8" Scallop Circle from Tangerine Tango card stock.  Use Soft Suede ink to stamp "you make me HAPPY" on Very Vanilla card stock; punch out with Decorative Label punch.

3. Use Stampin' Sponge to apply Soft Suede ink around edges of 5-1/4" x 4" Very Vanilla card stock, 5-1/4" x 2-1/4" DSP, and all three punched shapes.

4. Adhere DSP to front flap of card base; adhere 2-1/2" Circle over DSP; adhere 2-3/8" Scallop Circle over 2-1/2" Circle.  Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere Decorative Label over 2-3/8" Scallop Circle.

5.  For inside of card, use Tangerine Tango ink to stamp "paint scribble" image.  NOTE:  Start at the bottom and DO NOT reink the stamp between each of the three images.  This will create the fading out toward the top look.  Use Soft Suede ink to stamp flower image over paint scribbles.

6. Close card and, referring to first photo above, thread ribbon through the slots on each flap and tie in a bow on front of card.

Hope you have fun with this card!!!!
