The Open Sea (Masculine Card)

Click on image for closer view
One of my customers told me she had a need for masculine cards, so here's the first of several.    Hope you like it!  (Inspired by a card I found online . . . if I find my reference page, I'll add the name of the person who posted the original card.)

Materials:

Stamp Sets:
* The Open Sea
* Itty Bitty Banners

Paper:
* Night of Navy card stock (8-1/2" x 5-1/2"; 3" x 2-1/4"; 2-3/4" x 3/4"
* Sahara Sand card stock (5-1/4" x 4"; 2-3/4" x 2"; small amount for circle punch)
* Cherry Cobbler card stock (5" x 3-3/4", cut in half diagonally)
* Whisper White card stock (2-1/2" x 1-3/4"; small amounts for banner die and circle punch)

Ink:
* Night of Navy Classic Stampin' Pad

Accessories and Tools:
* Big Shot Die Cutting Machine
* Argyle Embossing Folder
* Bitty Banners Framelits Dies
* Stampin' Sponge
* Denim Ribbon (about 5")
* Multi-purpose Liquid Glue
* SNAIL Adhesive
* Stampin' Dimensionals

Instructions:

1. Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from score line to create card.

2. Stamp ship image on 2-1/2" x 1-3/4" card stock; stamp happy birthday and compass on scraps of Whisper White card stock.  Use Bitty Banner Framelits die to cut out happy birthday image; use 3/4" Circle punch to cut out center of compass.

3. Stamp compass image on scrap of Sahara Sand card stock; use 1-1/4" Circle punch to cut out image.

4. Use Stampin' Sponge to apply ink to edges of all Sahara Sand and Whisper White card stock.

5. Stamp globe image and ship's log image on Sahara Sand card stock as shown -- NOTE:  "stamp off" on scratch paper and then stamp on card stock without re-inking stamps.  This will creat a lighter background image.

6. Emboss Cherry Cobbler diagonal with Big Shot and Argyle embossing folder.

7. Now that all pieces are stamped and sponged, assemble card as follows:

a. Adhere Cherry Cobbler diagonal card stock to Sahara Sand card stock.

b. Wrap ribbon over Cherry Cobbler card stock and adhere ends on the back of Sahara Sand card stock.  Adhere to front of card.

c. Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere Sahara Sand compass over ribbon; line up and adhere Whisper White compass center over center of Sahara Sand compass with Stampin' Dimensional.

d. Use SNAIL Adhesive to adhere small Sahara Sand rectangle to Night of Navy rectangle; adhere Whisper White with ship to Sahara Sand card stock.  Adhere to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

e. Use SNAIL Adhesive to adhere Whisper White Bitty Banner to remaining piece of Night of Navy card stock.  Use Paper Snips to notch chevron shapes from ends of Night of Navy card stock.  Adhere to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

That's it.  You're done!  Enjoy!

Field Flowers Sponged Background Card

Click on image for larger view
This is the second card we made in my September classes.  I was going to do a brayered background, but liked this sponged look a little better.

Materials:

Stamp Set:
* Field Flowers

Paper:
* Cajun Craze card stock: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2"; 4-1/4" x 3")
* Glossy White card stock: 4" x 2-3/4")

Ink:
* Daffodil Delight Classic Stampin' Pad
* Cajun Craze Classic Stampin' Pad
* Jet Black StazOn Pad

Accessories and Tools:
* Spice Cake Designer Fabric (5-1/8" x 3-7/8")
* Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets
* Stampin' Sponges
* 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon (Early Espresso)
* SNAIL Adhesive
* Stampin' Dimensionals

Instructions:

1. Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" Cajun Craze card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from scoreline to create card.

2. Apply Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet to back of fabric; cut to the size indicated above.  Use the tip of your Paper Snips to pull away a few threads around each side to create a little fringy look.  Adhere to front of card.

3. Use Stampin' Sponge to apply Daffodil Delight ink to Glossy White card stock, concentrating the darkest shade at the top of the card.  Use a second Stampin' Sponge to apply Cajun Craze ink to Glossy White card stock, starting from the bottom and fading out about 1/3 of the way to the top.  Use Stampin' Sponge to apply ink around edges of Glossy White card stock.  Stamp flower images with Jet Black StazOn ink.  Wrap ribbon around card stock and tie in a knot on the front as shown.  Use SNAIL Adhesive to adhere to 4-1/4" x 3" Cajun Craze card stock.

4. Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere Cajun Craze card stock to front of card over fabric.

A nice autumn-themed all-occasion card.  Enjoy!

Calendar Ideas

It's time to start thinking about making calendars for 2013.  A few ideas from my past classes, swaps, gifts, and craft sales appear below.  Click on the links below for more information on how to make these. Contact me by e-mail to order calendar pads at my cost (25 cents each for all sizes -- see column to the right for sizes).

http://cathyscraftroom.blogspot.com/2012/01/leadership-calendar-card.html

Here's another calendar card that I designed for a make and take project in January 2012, but never got around to posting on my blog.  I guess there's no time like the present to do that!  It's a twisted easel card, pictured below closed, opened, and opened from the side.  I made these for all of my co-workers at the beginning of the year -- it makes me happy every time I walk around the office and see all of them set up near their computer monitors.  (It's nice to know they're actually USING them . . . .)

Materials:

Paper:
* Early Espresso card stock (8-1/2" x 4-1/4"; 4-1/4" x 4-1/4"; scraps for die cut and punch)
* Whisper White card stock (3-3/4" x 3-3/4"; scrap for punch)
* Designer Series Paper (4" x 4" -- two coordinating designs; scrap for die cut)

Accessories and Tools:
* Big Shot and Labels Collection Framelits Dies
* Simply Scored Scoring Tool and Diagonal Plate
* SNAIL Adhesive
* Stampin' Dimensionals

This card uses the largest size calendar pad - 3" x 2-1/4".

I thought I had previously posted instructions for a Twisted Easel Card, but I just can't find it anywhere, so maybe I just dreamt I did it.  In any event, I found a pretty good tutorial online, so follow this link to Pam Spark's site, Expressions with Heart, to find instructions.  Another thing you can do is Google "twisted easel card tutorial" and you will see lots of You Tube videos showing how to assemble an easel card.

NOTE:  The die I used for the circle that keeps the calendar standing up is no longer available, but you can use any shape for the "stopper" on the card -- I just attached it to the inside of the card with a Stampin' Dimensional to stop the card front from closing.

Hope this all makes sense.  If not, you're welcome to contact me and I'll do what I can to explain this card a little better.

August/September Swap Card

This is the card I made for both the August Front Range Stampers meeting and the September 8 Stampin' Up! Regional Conference in Denver.  The only subtle difference is that for the card on the right I used Island Indigo ink to distress the edges of the "Thank You" tag; for the other I used Early Espresso.

Inspiration: Lisa Brown (http://www.inkandinspirations.com/stampin-up-card-ideas/)

Materials:

Stamp Set:
                Perfectly Penned

Paper:
                Early Espresso card stock (8-1/2” x 5-1/2”; 4-3/16” x 3-3/16”; scrap for die cut)
                Island Indigo card stock (5-5/16” x 4-1/16”)
                Very Vanilla card stock (scrap for die cut)
                Natural Composition DSP (4” x 3”)

Ink:
                Classic Stampin’ Pads:
                        Cajun Craze
                        Early Espresso
                        Island Indigo

Stampin’ Up! Accessories & Tools:
                Stampin’ Sponge
                Big Shot & Apothecary Accents Framelits Die
                Decorative Label Punch
                1/2” Seam Binding Ribbon (Very Vanilla)
                SNAIL Adhesive
                Stampin’ Dimensionals

Instructions:
1. Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" Early Espresso card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from scoreline to create card.

2. Sponge Early Espresso around edges of Island Indigo card stock; adhere to front of card.

3. Sponge Cajun Craze ink randomly on Natural Composition Specialty DSP; wipe with tissue to remove ink from embossed images.  Repeat both steps with Island Indigo ink, and then with Early Espresso ink, covering entire piece with ink.  Adhere to Early Espresso 4-3/16" x 3-3/16" card stock.  Wrap ribbon from back to front around both pieces and tie in a bow at the far left.

4. Stamp sentiment on Very Vanilla card stock; use Big Shot and Die to cut out.  Sponge color around edges.  Punch Decorative Label from Early Espresso.  Adhere Very Vanilla die cut to Early Espresso label.  Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere to front of card over ribbon.

Pretty simple and very elegant!
