Frenchie's Secret Door Card (June 2012 Class Project)

Front with Belly Band

Inside
"Secret Door"

This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen! I copped the idea from Frenchie Martin, who calls it a Secret Door card. View Frenchie's instruction video by clicking HERE. While you're there, check out her other cool ideas!

Materials:

Stamp Sets:
* En Français (109521-w, $17.95, set of 1)

* SNAIL Adhesive (104332, 472”, $6.95; refill 104331, $4.50)

Instructions:

There's no way I could ever hope to describe how to make this card in words, so my best suggestion is to click on the link above and view Frenchie Martin's video tutorial.  Note, however, that to simplify the measurements, Frenchie used 8" x 5" card stock, which will make a slightly smaller card than the ones we usually make.  If you want to make the "regulation" size card, you may use the following measurements:

Base:
* 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" card stock, scored at 2-1/8", 4-1/4", and 6-3/8"

Inserts:
* 5-1/2" x 2-1/6"

Have a great time with this!  It's totally freaky and I haven't got a clue how it works, but it does work!

Daring Adventure Card (June 2012 Class Project)

Since Father's Day is coming up very soon, I thought we should have a manly card for one of our projects.  This one is loosely based on a design by Loll Thompson.  To see Loll's original card, as well as more of her wonderful creations, click here.

Materials:

Stamp Set:

* Daring Adventure (122600-w $20.95; 122602-c $15.95; set of 4)

Ink:
* Early Espresso Classic Stampin’ Pad (126974 $5.95; refill 119789 $2.95)
* River Rock Classic Stampin’ Pad (126977 $5.95; refill 109016 $2.95)
* Soft Suede Classic Stampin’ Pad (126978 $5.95; refill 115663 $2.95)

Paper:
* Soft Suede card stock (8-1/2” x 5-1/2”, 3-3/8” x 2-5/8”; 4-3/16” x 1-1/8”) (115318; 8-1/2” x 11”, 24 sheets, $6.95)
* Midnight Muse card stock (4” x 3”) (126843, 8-1/2” x 11”, 24 sheets, $6.95)
* Very Vanilla card stock (3-1/4” x 2-1/2”) (101650, 8-1/2” x 11”, 40 sheets, $8.50)
* Comfort Café Designer Series Paper ("DSP") (4” x 1”) (126898, 12” x 12”; 12 sheets, $10.95)
* Color Collection Designer Series Paper Stack - Neutrals (5-1/4" x 4") (12" x 12", 40 sheets, $21.95)

Accessories:
* Stampin’ Sponge (101610, 3/pkg., $3.50)
* Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue (110755 $3.95)
* SNAIL Adhesive (104332, 472”, $6.95; refill 104331, $4.50)
* Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430, 300 pcs., $3.95)

Instructions:
(Unless otherwise indicated, SNAIL Adhesive is used throughout)

1. Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from scoreline to create card.

2. Use River Rock Stampin' Pad to stamp "typed words" image on Very Vanilla card stock (you'll have to stamp it twice, side by side).  If you miss some of the spots or don't get completely to the edge, that's ok -- we want to have a weathered look to this card.

3. Use Early Espresso to stamp "daring adventure" image in center of Very Vanilla card stock.

4.  Use Soft Suede Stampin' Pad and Stampin' Sponge to smudge ink around edges and over parts of the Very Vanilla card stock.  As long as you have the sponge inked up, might as well smudge it around the edges of all of the other pieces too.

5. Adhere Soft Suede DSP (from Designer Series Paper Stack) to center of card; adhere Midnight Muse card stock over the DSP.

6. Adhere strip of Comfort Cafe DSP to coordinating strip of Soft Suede card stock; adhere over Midnight Muse with Tombow Multi-purpose Liquid Glue or Sticky Strip (it's going over several layers of paper, so these adhesives will hold it a little better than the SNAIL).

7. Adhere stamped Very Vanilla card stock to coordinating piece of Soft Suede card stock; adhere to front of card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

A very easy card -- and a good one to add to your stash of boy cards!

* Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder (117335 $7.95)
* Scallop Square Punch (119884 $16.95)
* 1-1/4” Square Punch (119865 $15.95)
* Owl Builder Punch (118074 $16.95)
* Jewelry Tag Punch (117190 $12.95)
* Vintage Trinkets (118764, 48 pcs., $5.95)
* ½” Seam Binding Ribbon – Rose Red (121884, 10 yds., $6.95)
* ½” Scallop Dots Ribbon: Melon Mambo (122985, 10 yds., $7.95); Tangerine Tango (124144, 10 yds., $7.95)
* Glue Dots (103683, 300 pcs., $4.95)
* SNAIL Adhesive (104332, 472”, $6.95; refill 104331, $4.50)
* Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430, 300 pcs., $3.95)

Instructions:
(Unless otherwise indicated, SNAIL Adhesive used throughout)

1. Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" at 4-1/4"; fold away from scoreline to create card.

2. Emboss 5-1/8" x 3-7/8" Whisper White card stock and adhere to 5-1/4" x 4" Rose Red card stock.  Adhere DSP to bottom edge (I used my Bone Folder to flatten out some of the Pretty Polka Dots at the bottom of the card stock before adhering the DSP so it would stick a little better).  Wrap Seam Binding Ribbon around card stock and tie in a knot on front.  Adhere to front of card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
3. Stamp "sweet" on small scrap of Whisper White card stock and cut out with Jewelry Tag Punch.  Use Paper Piercing Tool to punch hole in rounded end, and attach to ribbon knot with safety pin from Vintage Trinkets.

4. Punch three Scallop Squares from Rose Red card stock.  Stamp three "onesies" on Whisper White card stock; cut out with 1-1/4" Square Punch and adhere to Scallop Squares.  Adhere to front of card with Stampin' Dimensionals.  (Note:  I've found that the easiest way for me to line up three pieces across the top of a card like this is to adhere the two side pieces first, and then the middle piece is much easier to align.)

5. Use Owl Builder Punch to punch three vests from DSP.  Cut three 1-3/4" pieces of Scallop Polka-Dot Ribbon (two Melon Mambo and one Tangerine Tango); use needle and thread to gather one side of ribbon (use a running stitch through the tiny eyelet holes along edge of ribbon).  Pull into a ruffle and use Mini Glue Dots to attach one piece to back of each vest.  Use Mini Glue Dots to adhere vests, ruffle side down, over "onesies" images.
Got a boy?!  I discovered a really cute little boy card that also uses the Owl Builder Punch.  Follow this link to view a very sweet card by Maria Sanchez.  (Note:  Maria also used the Cupcake Builder Punch to make the clouds!)

Have fun!

Graduation Money Card (May Class Project)

Graduation is just around the corner, so what better for our final May project than a card for your favorite graduate.  This card can be made in any combination of colors -- feminine pink to not-so-feminine gray -- or match your graduate's school colors!  A clever money pocket is concealed behind the sentiment on the card front.

And -- bonus bonus bonus!!!!  This card uses no retiring items -- everything used is current and available now and in the new catalog.

* Pink Pirouette card stock (5” x 3-3/4”; about 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” for envelope die) (111351, 8-1/2” x 11”, 24 sheets, $6.95) ***

Ink:
* Jet Black Stazon Ink Pad (101406, $7.95; refill ink, $3.95)
* Pink Pirouette Classic Stampin’ Pad (126956, $5.95; refill 111843, $2.95)

* Stampin’ Sponge (101610, 3/pkg., $3.50)
* Basic Black 3/8” Taffeta Ribbon (119962, 10 yds., $6.95) ***
* Mini Glue Dots (103683, 300 dots, $4.95)
* SNAIL Adhesive (104332, 472”, $6.95; refill 104331, $4.50)
* Sticky Strip (104294, 10 yds., $6.95)

Changes for Gray Card:
*** Basic Gray card stock (5” x 3-3/4”; about 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” for envelope die)
*** Basic Gray Classic Stampin’ Pad (126981, $5.95; refill 109121, $2.95)
*** Square Lattice Embossing Folder (119976, $7.95)

Instructions:

1. Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from scoreline to create card.  Adhere 4-1/4" x 4" Whisper White card stock to front of card.

2. Emboss 5" x 3-3/4" card stock (Square Lattice for Basic Gray; Framed Tulips for Pink Pirouette); adhere to front of card with Sticky Strip (this holds really well for embossed surfaces).

3. Cut Top Note from Designer Series Paper; adhere to front of card over embossed card stock.

4. Cut Scallop Envelope from Pink Pirouette or Basic Gray card stock; cut off scalloped flap.  Adhere bottom flap to side flaps.  Adhere envelope to front of card with Sticky Strip (open side toward the top of the card and flat side facing foward).

5. Cut 3" Circle from Basic Black card stock.

6. Stamp Sentiment on Shimmery White card stock with StazOn ink.  Cut out design with appropriate sized Label in Framelits Collection (I think it's the 3rd from the smallest shape).  Use Stampin' Sponge to apply either Pink Pirouette or Basic Gray around outer edges.  Center over and adhere to 3" Basic Black circle.
     a.  For Basic Gray card, attach Brad at bottom of sentiment, and then center and adhere to envelope on front of card.
     b.  For Pink Pirouette card, center and adhere to envelope on front of card; make small bow and attach to front with Mini Glue Dot.

The pocket is hidden behind the sentiment, and you can add a gift note or folded dollar bill.  NOTE:  This pocket is not large enough for a credit card type gift card; however, you could probably accommodate a gift card by using the Petite Pocket Bigz XL die (123131, $42.95) instead of the Scallop Envelope die; cut it down to the appropriate size, and turn the card the other direction.

Have fun creating your own secret pocket cards!

Wish Big Card (May Class Project)

I'd love to give credit to the talented woman who gave me this idea -- I received her card in a swap at the Regional Conference in Phoenix earlier this year.  Unfortunately, she didn't put her name on the back of the card, so I can't tell you who it was!  I changed her card slightly by using darker, more intense colors, a different embossing folder for the background, and a different sentiment.

Materials:
Stamp Sets:

* Extreme Elements (115181-w, set of 7, $26.95) (available only through May 31, 2012)

Paper:
* Pacific Point card stock (8-1/2” x 5-1/2”, folded to create 5-1/5” x 4-1/4” card; 4” x 1-3/8”; small amount for die) (111350; 8-1/2” x 11”, 24 sheets, $6.95)

Instructions:

1. Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from scoreline to create card.

2. Emboss Wild Wasabi card stock with Houndstooth embossing folder; emboss Pacific Point 4" x 1-3/8" card stock with Square Lattice embossing folder.  Use brads to adhere Pacific Point to Wild Wasabi as shown; adhere to front of card with Sticky Strip.

3. Stamp big splotch image in center of Whisper White card stock with Wild Wasabi ink; stamp dots images with Pacific Point ink; stamp stars images with Rich Razzleberry ink; stamp sentiment in center of page with StazOn ink.  Adhere to Rich Razzleberry card stock.

4. Cut large star from Pacific Point card stock and small star from Rich Razzleberry card stock using Stars #2 die.  Place smaller star over larger star and insert brad to hold together.  Adhere to front of card with Mini Glue Dot or Stampin' Dimensional.

This is a great card for men or women; birthdays or congratulations!  Enjoy!

Summer Smooches Card (April Class Project)

This card features our April technique of the month - Faux Pressed Flowers.  I think this was my favorite card design last month!  It was designed by Dawn Sonju, a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, and uses the Designer Series Paper and fabric-covered brads featured in the April Summer Smooches Preview (the paper will be available in the new Stampin' Up! 2012-2013 catalog; the brads are no longer available -- but buttons would be really cute as the centers of these flowers too).

1.  Score 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" card stock at 4-1/4"; fold away from scoreline to create card.  Adhere 5-3/8" x 4-1/8" Whisper White card stock to front of card; adhere Designer Series Paper over the Whisper White.

2.  Cut Lattice Die shape from Whisper White card stock; center and lightly adhere to 3-1/2" square.  Emboss both thicknesses with the Pretty Polka Dots embossing folder.  Adhere to Tangering Tango 3-3/4" square.  Wrap Baker's Twine around about 3 times and tie a bow in the front.  Adhere to front of card.

3.  Cut two to three sets of leaves from Lucky Limeade card stock with the Little Leaves Sizzlits Die.  Adhere to front of card randomly as shown.  (I used Two-Way Glue Pen for this.)

3.  Cut 6 flowers from Tangerine Tango with the Blossom Party Die; adhere two flowers together, offsetting the petals, and insert Brad through both thicknesses.  If you're using a button, adhere the two flowers together, and then adhere the button with a Mini Glue Dot.  Adhere to front of card over leaves with Mini Glue Dots.

4.  Stamp sentiment on Whisper White card stock; cut out with Curly Label punch.  The bottom layer of the label was cut with the Movers and Shapers Curly Label die.  Adhere to front of card with Mini Glue Dots and Stampin' Dimensionals.

I hope you enjoy this card as much as I did.

Box Top Fold Card (April Class Project)

Inside View

I am totally at a loss as to where I found the design for this card. It's a small card (only 3-1/4" x 3-1/4"), but the front is folded over like a box top, so it's perfect as a holder for cash or a small gift. You can also make a matching envelope!  Unfortunately, some of the materials are no longer available, but you can easily substitute different stamp sets and Designer Series Paper to make this card.

Instructions:

This card is actually much easier to make than it looks . . . the basic card is created by cutting two 3" x 6" pieces of card stock or DSP and scoring each of them at 1-1/2" from each short end, creating a 3" square in the center of each piece. Glue just the center of one piece of paper over the center of the other piece so it forms a plus sign (+). Fold the flaps up and and fold like you would fold the top of a box (one flap over the other all the way around, and then tucking the loose end under the first flap). For this card, we added a 3-1/4" base and inserted a length of ribbon between the back of the 3" square and the 3-1/4" cardstock before gluing together; this was then tied in a bow to hold the card closed (it also will stay together just fine without the ribbon).

The matching envelope was made from a 5-1/2" square of DSP. Using the Diagonal Simply Scored Plate, the DSP was scored at 2-1/2" on all sides.

For information on making envelopes with the Diagonal Simply Scored Plate, see the section labeled "Make Your Own Envelopes" on Jackie Topa's website. Just above the first photo under that heading, you will see a link to "Download Diagonal Score Plate Envelopes." Jackie has put together measurements for making envelopes to fit 28 different size cards! If you go a little further down the page, you'll see that Jackie also has provided a video showing how to make the envelopes. Great info here!

I hope you enjoy this sweet little card.  Note:  This card is not large enough to meet minimum postal requirements; it's intended as a gift enclosure or small card to hand to a favorite someone.
